Michael
Bernick: Mr. Bernick was the director of the state labor
department, the Employment Development Department, from 1999-2004 under
Governor Gray Davis, and a Director and Board President of BART transit
system, 1988-1996. For nearly thirty years he has been active with
community-based job training groups, and has served on the boards of
Positive Resource Center, the Ella Hill Hutch Community
Center, the Mission Reading Clinic, and Youth for Service, among these
groups. His son William participated in JROTC at Washington High.
Douglas
S. Chan:
Mr. Chan is a public high school parent, former member of the Lowell
High School Site Council, and a commissioner with the San Francisco
Human Rights Commission. He is a partner in the law firm of
Chan, Doi & Leal, LLP, focusing on the representation
of start-up enterprises.

Gwen
Chan:
a native SF and a product of SF public schools, Mrs. Chan recently
retired as the interim superintendent of the San Francisco Unified
School District after 40 years of dedicated service to children and
youth. As a former teacher, high school principal, associate
superintendent of high schools, chief development officer and deputy
superintendent, Ms. Chan values well-rounded youth leadership
development and has seen first hand the value of the JROTC Program.
Nelson
Lum:
Mr. Lum is the parent of a daughter enrolled in the JROTC program at
George Washington High School. Nelson attended San Francisco public
schools, City College and SF State. He is an Army veteran, a retired
San Francisco police officer, a current member and director of the
American Legion.

Bruno
Peguese:
Mr. Peguese is currently a Principal Officer in Real Estate with the
San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District. He is a graduate of
Balboa High School, the University of San Francisco, and the University
of San Francisco Law School. An active Episcopalian,
he has served over 25 years as a parish vestryman, and
has served with youth programs sanctioned by
the Episcopal Diocese. Several of his family members have participated
in JROTC.
Quincy
Yu:
Mrs. Yu is a parent of a Lincoln High School student and a graduate of
the San Francisco public schools, U.C. Berkeley and Stanford
University. Quincy has over 25 years as an entrepreneur and is
currently the President of SeaYu Enterprises, an all-natural green
consumer products company for the pet industry.
Dr. Steve Ziman: Dr.
Ziman is an environmental consultant and has specialized in air quality
issues for 25 years. He was a staff member on the US House of
Representatives Science, Research and Technology Subcommittee from
1979-80 under George Brown (D-CA). He is on the Site Council for
Lincoln High School, and both of his sons have been in the JROTC
program while at Lincoln.
